Christmas Disasters, but some successes

The Holiday Season is over, and I have three instances that make me ecstatic that my wife and I live 3 hours away from her siblings, and some good concrete progress my wife has made in being able to tell her awful siblings to piss off.

Incident One - Pre-Christmas Greedy BIL:

When asking what we should buy our niece and nephew on Facebook messenger, my BIL immediately changed the subject without telling her what to get the kids, and told my wife he wanted a several hundred-dollar set of headphones, and a subscription phone app for karaoke.
My wife tried to politely put him off because this was a thinly disguised attempt to get her credit card information into his phone to buy the app. Also, we can’t afford such nice headphones for ourselves. Not that he cares, but we are paying more than 50% of our income into medical debts right now and are financially really tight.
This was his response that my wife copied over to me so I could see it:
BIL: here’s the deal. So when u asked what I want, it is a moot point from this second. Don’t ever ask all I want. . . it’s a nothing. . . thanks for the thoughts. . . My kids are super good too. So u have plenty of $. Exactly why Christmas is the worst.
BIL: The point of a gift is seeing something and thinking of someone, not for you to ask what people like or don’t like. Then do what you’re going to do anyways. It shows the lack of actual love you have. Take your money and shove it up your twat. How about that?
BIL: Me and my family want nothing from you.
We bought the kids gifts anyways. We weren’t going to let him take the kid’s gifts away to make a point to my wife. The kid’s mother (he’s split from the family after a domestic violence charge) was happy we made that decision and said the kids would have been crushed if we had forgot them. They are very poor, and we tend to give higher dollar gifts to try and make up for that on Xmas and birthdays. Usually tablets, game systems, that kind of thing. My BIL was jealous that we were willing to pay for the kids, but not him.
This was the first time she told her brother straight up no about money related requests. Success!

Incident Two - The Vegas Xmas Fiasco:

My BIL left in-patient treatment and flew to Vegas with a woman he had known for 8 days over Xmas, with the intention of marrying her. (This is the 3rd attempt at marriage in 6 weeks.) The fiancé paid for everything. My BIL was in an electric wheelchair because he had just had surgery to repair his leg that was broken in 6 places. (We’ve only gotten a squirrely story on how that happened.)
Three days in, there was a fight, and he was abandoned in a paid hotel room at the MGM Grand. He only had his ID, no credit card, and not a cent to his name. He is a moron. He had the room for one more night until his flight home.
The lucky lady bailed on my BIL, which was probably the best choice she could have made. He called for help to my wife and I in Seattle, and we called the hotel, attempting to put our credit card on the room to keep him in the prepaid room.
The problem was that the hotel has to have an active credit card on file for the room, even if it is paid for, in order to charge the daily resort fees. My wife panicked because he had a broken leg. I suspect she would have probably let him rot in Vegas if he didn’t have the broken leg. This was not something my wife could let go of. He literally has nobody else to get him back home.
We spent all day setting up payment at the hotel, only to find out he’d run up room expenses he had just "forgotten" to tell us about. They can’t take payment for room expenses on the card we set up, or over the phone. We ended up charged for the Hotel resort fees for his room, even though he got himself locked out.
At this point we confirmed his flight home was cancelled by his “fiancé” (Smart lady), because he hadn't checked, and we did not believe for one minute that things were "fine." We told him to go to the airport and we would get him on a flight home. He’d just have to wait it out at the airport since he’d lost the hotel room.
During all this, my 40-year-old BIL spent his time on the phone losing his mind at my wife. I heard it all on speaker, and noticed he was joking with others in the background and his behavior was getting more and more erratic. He then told my wife he was not going home, and he hung up on her. My wife was so worried she did not sleep all Xmas Eve and kept trying to call him. He’d found folks to get him a drink and get him high. Some partiers took him along with them to party, and my BIL wanted another night of partying in Vegas.
My BIL called back at 0500 Xmas morning with his electric wheelchair near dead on the side of the road in Vegas.
Then my wife did something I have never seen her do before. When my BIL started swearing and yelling at her to fix the situation for him, she hung up on him. He called back a half hour later but was much nicer. No apologies, but he ready to go back home. That's a huge success for her!
Because of the holiday traffic on Xmas day, would couldn’t get him a flight home until the next day. My wife called around and found a La Quinta that was 1.5 miles down. He managed to get his dying wheelchair there.
I don’t think I could have stopped my wife from doing this. However, she’s starting to come around and realize she doesn’t have to jump in and save everyone. I really do think if he hadn’t had a broken leg, she would have dumped him.
We are out $500+ for all of this. My wife’s therapist, which I go to as support occasionally, has really keyed in on the fact that she feels she has to save these people and seems to think that’s normal. This incident and the therapy has really seen some breakthroughs where she had never realized she did this so much. I’m hoping she can stop helping him, and I am seeing progress. Baby steps, but still a success.

Incident Three - My SIL crawls out from under a rock:

My SIL is pretty awful, and in the last 30 years of being with my wife, she has only talked to us when she thinks she can get money from us. This literally includes an email one time telling us she doesn't only talk to us about money she wants, then asking us to pay her rent.
Backstory
Before my MIL passed, my wife took all the family photo albums, and worked on scanning and repairing the photos in photoshop. My MIL told my wife to keep them when we offered to bring them back because my wife and I are the only kids that are even remotely stable, so we had those photos before my MIL died. My wife would repair them, print new ones, and give them to her mother and the rest of the family periodically.
About six months after my MIL’s death, my wife completed the project. At our expense, we printed out multiple sets of photos for folks without computers. We then created 10 USB drives with all the photos and gave them out to literally everyone that we could. This included my SIL and her family, and my BIL.
The Drama
My wife has gotten much better at photoshop and spent the last few months redoing some of those scans and updating and repairing them. Her goal was to improve the quality, organize them, and archive them.
She mentioned this on Facebook. (It’s always Facebook with the drama.) When her sister came out swinging about how on her deathbed, my MIL had willed all the photos to her, not my wife.
This was a weird pack of lies. My MIL was not even awake or talking at the hospice house. My SIL called my wife selfish and how she was insulting my MIL's dying wish. It was a lot of cutting insults.
My wife offered to print her a full physical copy of the repaired photos. The originals are all kind of damaged in one way or another which is why my wife was repairing them in photoshop. That wasn’t good enough for my SIL. She wanted the originals because she didn’t want my wife to have them.
My MIL didn’t know my wife was transgender because my wife transitioned shortly after her death. Part of the issue is my SIL doesn’t want my wife to have anything from her mother because it should go to the “only” daughter. It’s a way to attack my wife and deny my wife is a woman.
My wife and I have been together for 30 years, and I started out as the wife in the relationship, and she started out as the husband. When I transitioned female to male some years back, my in-laws were completely 110% on board with supporting me in my transition. I have no doubt, they would 110% support my wife as their daughter, with her transition male to female.
It's hard to tell because my SIL has old skinhead ties, and alt-right connections, and has some pretty fucked up views on LGBTQ, race, etc. She's got the full collectors edition of bigotries, but hasn't hit on that outright with us. Once again, probably because it's hard to get money from people when you are telling them shitty bigoted things.
Unlike every other time one of her siblings have asked her for something outrageous, my wife held her ground. She offered a copy of photos, printed out at Walgreens. She offered to pay for them, even. My SIL said that wasn’t good enough and blocked my wife. This is the first time I’ve seen my wife refuse my SIL anything, so that’s a big success.

Aftermath

What my BIL and SIL don't realize is my wife is going to therapy a lot. She has finally found a really good therapist that really has been helping my wife with the issues with her childhood. These three incidents were all my wife talked about over the holidays, and I'm not sure those two vipers will ever get what they want. Each time they act up, it's finally starting to be clear to my wife they don't care about her, just her wallet.
I also think we are going to start seeing an extinction burst, or something like that, because my wife is now saying no to their demands. I'm on the lookout for it, but I'm not sure my wife is fully aware that this could get worse before it gets better.
It's still a success, though.

  • WWF vs. WCW in the "Battle of Los Angeles" as Dave calls it took place this week (Dave already shouting out PWG years before they even existed). Both WWF and WCW held house shows in the city on the same night. WCW claimed a total attendance of 10,948 which is by far the best WCW has ever drawn in California. But there's a question if the show was even profitable. WCW spent tons of money on advertising, they threw in all the production bells and whistles of a regular Nitro, with pyro and stage setup and everything, and Hogan worked the show (which of course costs extra money). Plus the venue they ran in (Great Western Forum) is one of the most expensive arenas in the U.S. to run in. Merchandise sales may be the only thing that make this a profitable show for WCW. Billed as WCW Saturday Nitro, the show was good but nothing special and audio commentary was broadcast live on WCW's website. Chris Jericho won the cruiserweight title from Syxx and was booed out of the building for it by the pro-heel crowd. Hogan didn't work a match at the show but he came out with the rest of the NWO to cut a promo. The crowd gave Hogan and the rest of the NWO a huge babyface reaction. To end the show, Sting came down from the ceiling and beat up all the NWO and eventually put Hogan in the scorpion deathlock.

  • WWF drew 9,469 fans to their show and despite drawing slightly less than WCW, without all the added production and promotion costs, WWF is the clear money winner here. They had a bikini contest that apparently went on for over 20 minutes, with all the women stripping. The crowd began throwing money "which Sunny was glad to collect." Sable wore the least and got the biggest pop to win. Bret Hart made his in-ring return during the main event but his knee was still obviously hurting and not nearly 100% recovered yet. Anyway, it's worth noting that these 2 shows were also competing with something else going on that same night, which leads us to....
  • Mike Tyson faced Evander Holyfield in one of the strangest boxing matches of all time that ended when Tyson bit Holyfield's ear. This isn't wrestling related but Dave covers it and, I mean, c'mon, we gotta. Actually Dave does tie this whole thing in to wrestling by talking about an old wrestling incident from 1931 called the Battle of the Bite. It's a really long, convoluted story and involves Ed "Strangler" Lewis and a guy who intentionally bit himself on the arm and drew blood (and made it look like Lewis had done it) in order to get Lewis DQ'd so he could win the title, which was a shoot double-cross (he wasn't scheduled to win the belt, but when the referee calls it a title change in front of the crowd, the promoters had to go with it). From that point on, it became policy in American wrestling that world titles didn't change hands by DQ anymore. So if you ever wanted to know why that's a rule, now you know. Anyway, back to boxing, Dave says the sport will survive and Tyson will eventually return to the ring and still draw big money and thinks people are overreacting when they say this will kill the sport.
WATCH: Tyson vs. Holyfield (the ear-bite fight)
  • Jim Cornette debuted in ECW in an angle similar to the Lawler angle. The lights went out and when they came back on, Cornette was in the ring and he began hitting people with his tennis racket. Word is this angle got over just as big, if not more so, than the Lawler angle and had massive heat. Chris Candido reportedly acted as the middleman between Paul Heyman and Cornette to negotiate the deal to bring him in. Heyman figured Cornette was the last person anyone would expect to show up in ECW, given that the 2 of them have legitimately always hated each other. Cornette originally wasn't going to do it, but he loved the idea of the angle (it's an old southern-style angle, the kinda shit Cornette loves) and after Heyman agreed to meet several stipulations, Cornette agreed to do it. The main stipulation was that Paul Heyman agreed to apologize to Cornette's longtime friend Dennis Coraluzzo for double-crossing him during the NWA title tournament in 1994. Heyman met with Coraluzzo and the two sides buried the hatchet and even discussed allowing ECW wrestlers to work shows for Coraluzzo and in exchange, Coraluzzo would drop his longstanding war against ECW, where he has tried repeatedly to use legal means to get the company shut down. Heyman also agreed to send a limo to pick up Cornette and Coraluzzo and bring them to the ECW Arena. Cornette also wanted Heyman to apologize to Coraluzzo in front of all the ECW wrestlers, but that didn't happen. Coraluzzo never left the limo and had his meeting with Heyman there. Cornette was only in the ECW locker room for a brief time before leaving after the angle. It's expected Cornette will be Lawler's manager for any upcoming shows that Lawler works, including the ECW PPV in August. (No video of Cornette's debut on YouTube but it's on the Network on the June 30th, 1997 episode of Hardcore TV).
  • Also during the Cornette angle, Jerry Lawler hit Tommy Dreamer in the balls with a kendo stick for real. Dreamer was legitimately injured and couldn't work the next night's show and is said to still be in a lot of pain (yeah, Dreamer has talked about this. Lawler almost ruptured his balls for real. Let's hear Tommy talk about it. The video of it happening is also in that episode of Hardcore TV, during the Cornette angle. Dreamer's high-pitched scream when it happens will haunt your nightmares).
WATCH: Tommy Dreamer talks about the Jerry Lawler nutshot
  • EMLL president Paco Alonso held a meeting with his wrestlers and told them he's going to get 15 of them jobs with WCW. Bischoff is still discussing the idea of doing a Lucha Libre PPV and wants an EMLL vs. Promo Azteca storyline, but neither side (especially Promo Azteca) wants to do it and Konnan is upset that Bischoff is even dealing with EMLL at all since he feels like he's responsible for the rise of Lucha Libre in the U.S. and now feels Bischoff is shoving them aside in favor of EMLL.
  • It's almost a lock that the main event of NJPW's Jan. 4th Tokyo Dome show will be Riki Choshu vs. Kensuke Sasaki (nope). Sasaki is a protege of Choshu and has never beaten him. And Choshu will be wrestling his final match at the show before retiring, so expect Sasaki to finally defeat Choshu there (didn't happen. Choshu ended up wrestling 5 matches that night and none of them were against Sasaki).
  • Tom Prichard is moving to Memphis and word is USWA will end up becoming a satellite company to the WWF and will be used as a developmental territory and training location. Dave also mentions offhandedly that USWA is currently being funded by a guy from Cleveland who runs a chain of massage parlors (this WWF deal fell through and we'll find out all about it in about a year).
  • Jerry Jarrett's mother Christine Jarrett was fired by USWA. She has worked the ticket office in Louisville "literally since the beginning of time" but USWA finally cut ties with her.
  • Glenn Jacobs is no longer doing the Diesel gimmick in USWA and has been working as a gimmick named Doomsday, but wearing the old Lord Humongous mask.
WATCH: Glenn Jacobs as Doomsday - USWA, 1997
  • Curt Hennig debuted on Nitro in just about the weakest way possible, simply walking out during the NWO beatdown at the end of the show. Raven also debuted on Nitro in the crowd and at the end, when Hennig walked out, Raven jumped the barricade as well and they both sorta just stared down the NWO as the show went off the air. The original plan was for both Hennig and Raven to join the NWO but that may be too much at once and plans will probably change, because everything changes on a dime in WCW nowadays.
  • Mike Tyson was backstage at Nitro, which was in Las Vegas and WCW had planned to bring him out as a big surprise to end the show. But given what happened with Tyson 2 nights earlier in Vegas (biting Holyfield's ear), they decided not to use him. The decision was mostly made by the MGM Grand Garden Arena and by TNT, who pretty much forbid WCW from using him or from even referencing boxing. In fact, boxer Michael Moorer was in the front row for the show, and WCW was told not to show him on camera or acknowledge him because the sport of boxing has such negative publicity right now after what Tyson did (man, I gotta disagree with them here. Bischoff bringing Mike Tyson out on TV on Nitro 2 nights after the ear thing would have made MAJOR news).
  • WCW also tried to bring in Jose Lothario for the show, not for any real reason, just to get people talking and to stick it to WWF, but it didn't happen.
  • WCW has released several wrestlers, including Michael Wallstreet, Craig Pittman, the Nasty Boys, Jim Duggan, Joe Gomez, Ice Train, and Nancy Sullivan.
  • Speaking of Nancy Sullivan, word is she and Kevin Sullivan are splitting up in real life, "although this has nothing to do with the storyline." I think we can safely say Dave had that one wrong.
  • Buff Bagwell will be starring in a movie called Return To Savage Beach, which I guess is a sequel to that other low-budget movie he did (here's the full movie. There's literally tits in the first 2 seconds, so, yanno...NSFW warning).
WATCH: Return To Savage Beach (full movie)
  • Buddy Landel was given a tryout match at the latest WCW tapings and lost to Bill Goldberg in 90 seconds.
  • On Raw, they finally had Paul Bearer reveal Undertaker's big secret. Bearer accused Undertaker of burning down his parents' home and killing his parents and his younger brother "Cain" and called Undertaker a murderer. Undertaker claimed Cain burned down the home by accident and said he blamed himself for letting it happen. So now they have to introduce a character that is Undertaker's brother. Dave thinks there could have been a lot of storyline potential if they revealed Mankind was his brother, but the recent Mick Foley interviews revealing his childhood, they kinda killed that possibility. Most people don't remember but when Undertaker first debuted in the WWF, his name was Cain The Undertaker, but they dropped the Cain part after a few matches.
WATCH: Paul Bearer reveals Undertaker's secret
  • Sable came out on Raw in a low-cut top, "revealing yet another boob job" while Marc Mero acted jealous and tried to block her from the camera. "Sable needed another boob job like Yokozuna needs more cake and ice cream so go figure what goes through people's minds," Dave says.
  • The Headhunters debuted in WWF on Raw and were managed by Jim Cornette. They had a hard time doing their big top rope moves because the WWF ropes are looser than they're used to and they're both big guys. Since WWF already has a team called the Head Bangers, they may change the Headhunters names to The Arabian Butchers (indeed they did, but they didn't last very long in the company).
WATCH: Headhunters debut in WWF
  • At the Shotgun tapings and in dark matches, The Patriot from AJPW made his debut, losing to Rockabilly (Billy Gunn). He didn't really get over. Shawn Morley who's been wrestling in Puerto Rico and EMLL had a tryout match (he'd later become Val Venis).
  • WWF Injury Report: Ahmed Johnson is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. Sid was hospitalized with back problems and no word on when he'll be back. Doug Furnas is waiting to hear if he'll need back surgery to repair a broken vertebrae. Rocky Maivia is out with a knee injury until next month. Leif Cassidy has a leg injury and is out for an unknown amount of time.
  • They did an angle on Shotgun Saturday Night "firing" Brian Pillman as host of the show. The plan was to bring in Paul Heyman to host the show and WWF even sent him a plane ticket to fly to the next taping to do it. Problem is, no one told Heyman and he has no interest in hosting the show, so he didn't go.
  • Speaking of Heyman, there seems to be a lot of heat on him for various things within WWF. For starers, Vince McMahon was reportedly furious that Heyman mentioned Nitro and Eric Bischoff's name on Raw. There's also still heat over the incident with Rob Van Dam and McMahon because of the incident last week with Van Dam not wanting to put over Jesse James. Heyman had a meeting with McMahon this week to discuss all these various things and it seems like the WWF/ECW relationship is on the rocks a bit. A lot of WWF wrestlers aren't happy about the relationship either because they feel that the ECW guys are being allowed to get over in ways they can't. WWF stars aren't allowed to break tables or jump off the guard rails and stuff like that, so they're a little peeved that ECW guys are being brought in to Raw and being allowed to do those things, which is getting them over while others in WWF are struggling to connect.
  • Still nothing new on the Shawn Michaels front. He's scheduled to meet with McMahon sometime this week but that's all anyone knows. No word on if/when he might be back.
  • Some guy writes in and talks about the lack of depth in the WWF roster and specifically talks about knowing it's time to change the channel when he sees guys like Rocky Maivia or Hunter Hearst Helmsley come on the TV. "Even if they weren't shitty workers, I could deal with them if they had a decent personality." Yeah, who wants to see those un-charismatic dweebs? Lots of ridiculousness in the letters this week actually. Someone else writes in defending Ric Flair and says that 20 years from now, people will still be talking about how great Flair is while Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Syxx, and Eric Bischoff while be barely remembered footnotes in wrestling history.
TOMORROW: WWF Canadian Stampede PPV fallout, ECW/WWF relationship falling apart, USWA wrestler legitimately arrested on live TV, and more...

21M from the Netherlands had his first solotrip to the US for 3 months.

So a couple months ago I decided I wanted to travel by myself for the first time, and for some reason I really wanted it to be the US. Since a majority of Reddit is from there I posted here and asked what people really wanted me to see, and the comments did not disappoint, I got so many of them and I took them all in consideration. Even though I didn't plan a thing, I just went and hoped everything would go well.
So on May 15th it was finally there, my first solo trip, I flew from Amsterdam to New York and I loved it, mostly because it was my first time there, and I hadn't seen anything from the US yet.
I stayed there for a week before going to Boston, which was nice, but I didn't do much, my hostel was quite far out of the city and there were a lot of nice people I met in the hostel to just chill with and enjoy the weather.
After three nights I flew to DC which was then my favorite city, I loved the monuments, the museums and how clean the city was, again the people in the hostel were great and even the owner of the hostel was a great guy.
Next up: Miami, which was a totally different world, from sightseeing and taking photos almost everyday to chilling at the beach during the day and binge drinking and going out at night. It was a lot of fun though and I enjoyed my time there a lot, South Beach treated me right, my favorite part of Miami must've been Wynwood, Art District.
After Miami I had no clue where to go next, I checked Skyscanner, and without hesitation I booked my flight to the Bahamas, the flight was cheap, my hostel was kinda cheap but so beautiful, and at an amazing location, however... My stay at the Bahamas was absolutely horrible. First off, the bus driver from the airport just dropped me off in the middle of nowhere, so I had to walk 2 hours with both my bags in this killing heat, and the second problem I had there were the people who were also staying at the hostel.. it was the first time I felt alone, because no one was talking to each other, and even if I tried to start a conversation they were just not interested and it really killed the experience, all I did was enjoy the weather and the beautiful location by myself.
My flight back was to Miami again, but since I had already been there I didn't plan on staying so as soon as I landed I took a bus to Orlando, not for the parks but just because I didn't know where to go, I found this very nice Airbnb on the way there in Kissimmee, a small 30 minutes out of Orlando, the nicest Airbnb I had ever seen, Cabana City. This guy set up 10 cabanas in his garden (which was huge) all around a hot tub, they were very comfortable and the owner of the place was a great guy, I did some wine tasting at the Lakeridge Winery but that was about it, I mostly enjoyed the pool because it was just too hot out there.
Then my first experience with Amtrak came along; Orlando to Charleston, SC. And this city will be my favorite city in the US forever, there is no way anything can beat the charm of this old looking, and welcoming little town. If I ever have to move to the US, this would be the place I want to live, the people, the food, the architecture, the weather, everything about it was just amazing, and I wish I had planned a little more time here, but after a few days I already had a flight to Austin, TX.
Austin was fun from the second I walked into my hostel, without planning this out, I met someone who I also met in Miami and he was a great guy, we hung around for a few days and enjoyed 6th St at night, before he had to leave again on his roadtrip in the car he bought in Miami. The last days in Austin were just chilled, some paddleboarding on the river next to the hostel and just listening to the music some of the other guests were making on their guitars.
New Orleans was my next stop (I stayed in Houston for one night because it was the cheaper option) and New Orleans was great, a bit to hot because of the humidity which made sightseeing a hell, but the overall experience was amazing.
And then California: I flew from New Orleans to LA to just stay there for one night, after that night I'd go to San Diego where I met a lot of great people, even though it was just like Miami, just beachdays and beers, we still managed to go on a walking tour in Tijuana, which was in my opinion too touristy, I did not really have the feeling I was in Mexico, but still, another country I can tick off on the list. When I got back in the hostel, the roadtripping guy from Miami had just arrived and was playing some beerpong, and I was so confused. The other times he offered me to come with him on the trip, but I unfortunately already had other things booked when he asked me, but this time that was not the case so I decided to join him, which was the best decision of my life!
From San Diego to Santa Monica, for 3 nights, and one of them was the 4th of July, a dream come true, celebrating Independence day in Santa Monica. Hollywood was our next stop, but LA got hit with a heatwave and it was not possible to leave the cold areas where an AC was working his ass off. At nights it cooled down a little so that's when we did most of our sightseeing, the Walk of Fame, and the Hollywood sign were basically all we saw there.
Vegas was a complete surprise for me because they told me they had an Airbnb booked where I could stay with them, (it was me and 6 others at this point) however this Airbnb turned out to be a suite on the 12th floor of the MGM Grand and it was such a weird experience to be in a place like that for once. I had my reasons not to gamble in LV so I mostly enjoyed the clubs there but in the end it was a great experience.
Since this was my first time with "my own" vehicle I was finally able to see some natural parks which I what we did, first the Grand Canyon and then Yosemite. And at this point I already regret not having my own car for the whole trip, because I would've done only national parks from that point, I didn't expect it to be this beautiful out there, but it was amazing to camp in nature and I cannot thank my friend enough for taking me with him.
Unfortunately.. on the way from Yosemite to San Francisco the car broke down, so we had to take a train to San Fran and that's where our trip together ended, they had to go back to get the car and I went to Sacramento and Portland, in Sacramento I got to stay with a friend I knew from my first week in NYC so that was very convenient, I love how friendly everyone I met was when I told them I was coming to their city.
Getting to Portland was a hell, an 18 hour train got delayed, so it turned out to be a 23 hour trip.. but I finally got there, so that was a good thing. In Portland I wanted to see some film locations of my favorite TV-Show; Grimm, and it did not disappoint. However that was only one day in a 4 day stay so I had no clue what to do the other days. But because Portland was so beautiful there was plenty I could do around there, like enjoying nature and going on the aerial tram to enjoy the view.
Seattle is mostly known for Starbucks I guess, and since I'm not a huge fan of coffee, what was I supposed to do there, well a local I met over Tinder (the only reason I was on tinder in the US was to meet locals who could show me around) knew exactly what. The insane looking library is where we met, she then showed me the gum wall (in my opinion this was just disgusting) and then we took a ferry to the other side of the Sound, on the ferry back I really enjoyed the skyline of Seattle and that view got even better when at night she introduced me to her friends and we had some beers on a hill with an even better view over the city. Thanks for this great day!
Since I was so close to the border, I had to go to Canada, so Vancouver was the place. With only 2 weeks on my trip left and my final destination New York, I kinda got tired of doing so much sightseeing so in Vancouver I just went to a soccermatch; Vancouver Whitecaps 4 - Minnesota United 2. I was supposed to meet a friend from home in Vancouver but he got delayed so he would get here after I already left.
Because of my ESTA I was not able to fly in or out of Canada so I had to go back to Seattle to then fly to Chicago, where I had another friend (also from my time in NYC) who I wanted to meet up with, the first few nights I was staying in a hostel, which was way too luxurious to be a hostel, but it was. The weekend came though and this weekend was the Lollapalooza festival, and the prizes of the hostels went up like crazy, so my friend offered me to stay on his couch for a few nights, he showed me his favorite places and I got to see a whole other side of Chicago.
In Toronto I wanted to visit another friend, this time one I made in San Diego, and she introduced me to her friends who were all very interested in my trip and invited me over to a very special party; a player of the DC Capitals who won the Stanley Cup had a private party for friends and family, and this was probably the best night of my life. I had no clue how I ended up there but it was amazing!
Montreal was just another stop to kill the time, only a few days left before I would head home so I just walked around the city a bit, tried some food and drank with some fellow guests, funny enough the Miami/Austin/San Diego/Roadtrip guy was in Montreal with his parents now, so I joined them for lunch and we told them this crazy story.
My last stop before New York was Philadelphia where I stayed at my friend's place again, I met him in Miami and we were both really into soccer so that's what we did, watch some soccer on TV. He was also a great tour guide since he showed me more of Philly then I expected to see in the two days I was there.
There was no other place where I could stay my last night in the US than the first hostel I stayed in 3 months ago, so that's what I did, I was tired so all I did was just chill at the hostel and watch some Netflix.
Happy to go home.

This dude is a homeless cat and he doesn't even know it

Here's a review I saw from a comedian at /standup. Not sure how much sowld out showls he's done or ho much a drawl he might be, but forsure hire this guy as lead manager at Chang's. But water we taulkin bout, B? Ya like fizzical cawlmedy? Forsure lose my number.
https://www.reddit.com/Standup/comments/bq4vny/brendan_schaub_special/eo5xt07/
I just watched it. Here are my "live" notes:
Super cheesy intro, plays all characters, takes place at a bar, pokes fun at his 3 years, laaaaame taco jokes that don't land (some possible bad wordplay?)
Asian Jamal. K? OH, MATH JOKE. Kim Jong Un hair joke could be done MUCH, MUCH QUICKER.
Dresses like an asshole. (Hey, he said it.) Ah, "gay" jokes. In Texas. Here we go. Truck jokes. OH, TRUCK NUTZ. Texan accent. "Y'all." Tight jeans, tall truck. THIS CAN BE DONE QUICKER. I DON'T KNOW WHERE HIS JOKES GO. That was it with the Christian music? His physical comedy is not bad, I will admit. Mini Cooper. Here we go. ZIMA JOKE! THIS GUY IS THE NEXT ELAYNE BOOSLER. I don't know what the point of the joke is. Are you happy or sad that you're confused for a gay man? "Get me a Slurpee!" Good jok-- THAT WAS IT?! YOU ABANDONED THE ENTIRE FUCKING THING!
You're talking about deer now? What happened with the Mini Cooper, the Slurpee, and the good ol' boys at the gas station?! WHAT THE FUCK. Bryan Callen and Joe Rogan are in this story. I heard something about a penguin. I'm still mad about the last joke.
Ok, I also watched the Hulk Hogan sex tape. DON'T BLOW THIS! (Title of your sex tape. See what humor is, Brendan?!) YOU JERKED OFF TO IT?! JESUS CHRIST. YOU FINISHED WHEN HULK WAS TALKING TO HIS SON?! You better call his sperm or his balls "Hulkamaniacs." It's right goddamn there. Wait, that joke was essentially you describing your beating off to Hulk Hogan's sex tape? I'm glad you have CTE. (I take that back. I'm sorry.)
Joey Diaz and Eddie Bravo have been mentioned now. Gummy Death Star. HOW WILL YOU FUCK UP A JOEY DIAZ STORY? Not a bad Joey Diaz impression. "I didn't say a single word in 3 hours." I'm jealous of his company during those 3 hours. Of course you got high off an entire Gummy Death Star. Seeing sounds. Bro, you throw out these tiny hooks of potential humor but never follow through. Driving high. MAKE THIS FUNNY. Know on window = Eddie Bravo inside joke. "Look into it." K, highway. You're still with this. Ok, now I don't believe he's ever actually been high. Werewolves? You're so paranoid and willingly drive into a "crunk" McDonald's? I'm off this story, bro. YOLO? Are you making this shit up on the spot? This story, basically: "I GOT REALLY HIGH AND THEN I GOT REALLY HUNGRY SO I ORDERED A BUNCH OF FOOD." Why do you talk so oddly fucking weird? "I consumed every bit of that." That ended to dead air, basically.
CROSSFIT REFERENCE. HELLO, 2013!
I will NEVER believe that standup comedy is actually his dream career. NEVER. Maybe Jackass or something like that. Probably Kenny Rogers Jackass.
Hah, fuck Louise! Ok, that was funny.
Ah, this story is about how his dad switched his attention from clowning to fighting. His dad tried to save us. It worked for a while, Papa Schaub. Mind trying again?
I went back to edit some previous notes. He's talking about warming up before a fight and acting out some horseshit.
Still going. I rented the first UFC events on VHS from a video store across my high school. Them shits were ROUGH back then. Remember that scene in Baby's Day Out where there dude's nuts are on fire and the other dudes stomp them out? You could probably do that in UFC back then. "On a pile of gonads?!" Heh, Joe Mantegna.
Will Smith? What? Oh, he's still talking about the same fight. Ice-T? Oh, right, the fight was at the MGM Grand in Vegas. Leo. Titanic. This still pretty much goes back to my Jackass note from up there. Still the same story. Ah, Hawaiian opponent. Pineapple joke already made, of course. Same with Moana. How did mall food courts come up? Still going. Now he's talking about 300. Titanic mentioned again. This story is still taking place in an MMA octagon. "Wait, Rose..." What the fuck is going on? Like, overall. I don't understand anymore. That Trader Joe's chili lime salt stuff is very good. You can make some bomb-ass tortilla chips with it. Oh, he got knocked out. At least he's self aware. Leo shaking his head at him. So much waste. SO MUCH WASTE. "What the fuck was that, Schaub?" WE ARE ALL ASKING THE SAME THING! What was the 14 dollars about? I'm not rewinding. I'm doing my time and getting the fuck out. "Tig-ol bitties." Yelling at a kid. Crying. This is in the story, not the audience in the special. It's certainly special in some definition of the word. Flipping dicks? BRO. This is still the same general story. Why does the doctor have to be Asian-- OH, GOD, THE ACCENT. HOLY FUCKIN' JESUS JUMPIN' JONES. Dana White. Name drop. Eskimo brother. ::: shudder ::: I'm begining to question why you keep referencing "colored Gatorades." Is that a term from the 196-- never mind. Yep, still the same general story. He's crying in the locker room. "This is the lowest point of my life." I feel the same way right now, Brendan. I don't get why sandals are the jump-off point for this part. Steven Seagal or Jesus? BIG STRETCH. Ah, Bryan Callen name drop. The way he acts out Bryan Callen's defeated response is exactly how I feel watching this. OK, you and Bryan took a cab back to LA from Vegas that night and that's how your comedy career started? It's over. Remember the shit I said about shit he doesn't follow through on? The special is over. Like that. No big punchline. NOTHING. Basically, "and that's how I got started in comedy."
I should feel cheated, but I don't. I feel relieved that it's over.
